Rose at 6 am but ooh golly, what an effort – don’t think there was a part of me which didn’t hurt – of course we expected to be stiff but that doesn’t make it any better. I turned over in bed in the early hours and just about shot straight out it hurt so much. I awoke to find Helen creeping round and saying “Don’t know why I thought I’d be OK until lunch time – oooh!” Then Marye staggered in with “oh dear, ooh!!” and any time we laughed at ourselves or each other that hurt too! However, we managed to crawl around and prepare for our day out at Lake Numulla – on the Carinya section of the property about 40 miles away.
We left about 9 am after Mrs Morley had packed a picnic lunch for us. Took a couple of hours to get there, passing through some very pretty timbered country – we all liked the Leopardwood trees especially – and by this time the day was very hot.
Took a drive around part of the lake which has several “bays” to it, taking a snap or two – I finished my last roll of film! The lake has a lovely beach of fine white sand and we returned to the Shed where we changes for a swim. I felt ghastly and was promptly sick – first time I can even remember being carsick (as I thought).
We had a swim which was wonderful and I hoped would fix me up but I felt dreadful for the rest of the day and after forcing down a very light lunch I lay down for the rest of the afternoon on one of the iron stretcher beds in the gauzed-in shed. The others went for a stroll along the beach, having an occasional dip to keep cool – they even had a surf they told me – quite a strong easterly was blowing by this time.
Had a final swim and set off homewards stopping several times to take a snap of emus along the way. We saw quite the largest kangaroo any of us have seen but could not get close enough for a photo.
Arrived home at 6 pm and I had a shower and went straight to bed. Still don’t know what has upset me. I was disappointed of course not to feel well enough to really enjoy our picnic day as much as I would like. I’m sure the others did though!

We left about 9am after Mrs Morley had packed a picnic lunch for us. We took a couple of hours to get there and by this time the day was very hot. Took a drive around part of the lake and just had enough film to take a short piece of the very extensive lake, which is surrounded by trees and has a beach of lovely white sand. When we returned to the shed where we were to swim I felt ghastly and was promptly sick. First time I can ever remember being car sick (as I thought). We had a swim which I hoped might help, but I felt dreadful for the rest of the day so I lay down on one of the iron stretchers in the gauzed-in shed.
The others went for a long walk along the beach and had a couple of dips to keep cool. I woke up just before they came back and had just dressed when they returned for their final dip. Then we set off home, stopping several times to take a snap of the emus and kangas which were quite close to the road. We saw the largest ’roo I think I have ever seen, but we couldn’t get close enough to him. I had taken a short burst of two brolgas (native companions) on our trip out, but of course had finished my film. Mrs Nunn had been unable to get any for me in Cunnamulla. Arrived home at 6pm and I had a shower and went straight to bed. It was a most enjoyable day too, I was most disappointed not to be well enough to enjoy it properly. Still don’t know what has upset me.
