This diary is a compilation of two ‘sources’, a diary kept by Kath Turner while the trip reported unfolded, and the photos that Kath took on the trip, which have been scanned in from a physical photo album that did not have any captions or inscriptions.

The diary has been transcribed by Tim Turner, applying some editorial work on Kath’s shorthand (presented in [square brackets]). The captions on photos have been added by Tim using the sequencing of the photos in the album and the things that Kath wrote in the diary. Where a caption includes a question mark, the attribution of the place name is uncertain (the picture might not be what it is claimed to be).

Kath kept records of their expenditure and travel distances. Tim has compiled that into the table presented below and under the menu on each day. The records of their accommodation expenses appear to be absent.

Also, the first couple of days of the trip were spent in Canberra at Dianne Turner’s 31^st birthday. Those days are not counted in the journal. The photos shown below appear to be of the send off given to Kath and Len by their friends in Merimbula.
