Left Kingston at 8 am. Showery at start and quite heavy along the way. Land extremely flat, black soil plains. Some grazing of sheep and cattle – an odd crop or two but not many (photos of old lighthouse and big lobster before we left). [Cannot find thee photos.]
Plantations of Radiata Pine planted at Mt Burn near Millicent and still an industry today. Sawmill at Millicent with huge sawdust pile. Lots of reafforestation of course to keep industry going in the future – great to see.
Petrol just past Millicent (Tantaroola). 60,912 at Tantaroola.
Very fertile country in this area. Called into Mt Gambier. Looked at a sink hole made into a garden BBQ area in the park. Then to see the Blue Lake and the Crater Lake. Pressed on Piccanninie Ponds where we caught up with a couple of divers. Saw them dressing to go for a dive, so we waited until they dived taking photos on the tiny pontoon jetty, with promises to send photos if they were successful. [Not in the photo album.]

Travelled on to Portland for lunch at the Portland Hotel. After lunch, travelled to Warnambool and on up to Camperdown. Very lush, green, grazing country (cattle and sheep) all through this area. Weather showery, but so far we have been lucky with our sight-seeing stops with mainly breaks for us to be reasonably dry when it was necessary.
Were delighted to actually catch the Southern Right whales at Logans Beach (mother and calf at play – only out as far as the second wave from the sand breakers). Quite spectacular! Hope the photos come out. A little damp for this but well worth it.
Arrived at Camperdown around 4:30 pm.
