Another early bus pick up (6:25 am) this time on a proper coach. Bit of a problem finding a couple of travellers so we were a little late out of Darwin, but didn’t really affect the day.
Despite a short morning tea break at the Bark Hutt Cafe. We headed directly to the first attraction – aboriginal rock art at Narralangie Rock. It was very exciting to see real rock art, in good condition, in the wild. The postcard shows some of the pictures we actually saw.
We then headed around to the Warradjan Cultural Centre, which was interesting, well presented, but a little static. Then around to Gagudju Cooinda Lodge for lunch. Today felt a bit more hurried, not because Mal was brusque, but because we had so much to fit in.
After lunch, we went on a boat trip around Yellow Water (Jim Jim Creek, South Alligator River and an adjacent floodplain). Some spectacular water birds, river edge flora, and no crocodiles. Ruben, our boat guide, said that there’d be plenty of crocs if one of us fell in, but that it was too hot for them otherwise.
Finally, Ruben had to extend the boat ride until we (actually me and Julia –a German backpacker) spotted a croc on the riverbank. Much excitement among the Chinese visitors on board.
After the boat trip it was pretty much all bus trip home with a couple of stops to swap drivers and view more termite mounds.
By the time I got home, I could only imagine a light meal and bed. So, I bought McDonalds (horror!) and watched Judge Dredd on the telly.
