Today was the manager, Alex’s, ‘mystery’ tour of the island.
First stop, the local prison to visit the craft shop.
Then a stop at Black Rock and a drive through the back roads past taro, arrowroot, and pawpaw crops.
A stop at the “Jet Blast” site (at the end of the airport runway).
Then passed the power station to the Pananga Nui market site (in town).
Headed out of town to a historic site where ancient Cook Islanders are said to have first landed.
Then a stop at the famous Muri Lagoon. One of the classical images of Rarotonga.
Alex knew of a rope swing that went out over the lagoon.
The tour went past the “Fruits of Rarotonga” snorkel site and finally visited the “Ghost Hotel”
The hotel was built by Sheraton and intended to be a 5-star international resort.
Apparently, a falling out with the land owners meant that the project was abandoned.
More lounging and reading and, today, a nap.
Dinner at the Waterside Restaurant.
