Went straight from the ferry from Magnetic Island to the Mercure Townsville.
I spent the rest of the day plotting my visit to Townsville and relaxing at the resort.
After a leisurely start, I caught a bus into the city centre to walk around the town.
Coincidentally, the female bus driver was from Canberra and went to high school with my sisters.
Today’s plan was to summit Castle Hill. Sort of a ‘must do’ for Townsville tourism.
The initial plan was to bus into the town centre and go up and down from there.
Having learned nothing from my cross-island walk, I instead walked over to Castle Hill through the suburbs and ventured up a walking track.
The walking track was mostly well-made up the first 2/3 of the climb. It ended on the road up but there was an unmade short-cut to the top worn by ‘lazy’ climbers. Of course, I went that way.
(It was very hot that day. Constantly pulling the phone out of my bag meant that I ended up getting sweat on the camera lens. I didn't realise that until looking at photos when I had returned home.)
Having conquered the summit, I descended and walked North to visit the Army Museum.
I had a late lunch at the Shorehouse restaurant outside the Army Museum. Very nice!
I walked back into Townsville centre along The Strand. Then waited for a bus to go back to the Mercure.
I spent this day relaxing in the Mercure having conquered the sight-seeing that I’d planned for Townsville.
I travelled home from Townsville on Friday, 25 August.
